Calleen Koh is a Singaporean BAFTA-nominated animation filmmaker, writer, and artist currently pursuing her MFA in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts. Known for her dark comedy and subversive storytelling, her films have gained recognition for their irreverent energy and cultural bite.
Her latest short, My Wonderful Life (2024), produced by Tan Si En (Momo Film Co.) and starring the voice of Yeo Yann Yann, premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Bucheon International Animation Festival and won the Special Jury Award at SXSW 2025. It has also received awards from The Gotham Film & Media Institute, Toronto Reel Asian, and the Singapore International Film Festival, and is currently in the Official Shorts Competition at Annecy 2025. The film will be available on the Focus Features streaming platform.
Her past works include To Kill the Birds & the Bees (2021), a Yugo Student BAFTA nominee and multi-award-winning film, and Sexy Sushi (2020), which screened at over 40 international festivals and received multiple awards. Her 2022 short Hot Buns was directed under the mentorship of Siqi Song, premiered at Kaboom Animation Festival, and is currently streaming on Apple TV.
Calleen’s achievements in filmmaking have been featured in Variety, Vogue, CNA, and The Straits Times. She is currently developing her first TV series, Down at Motel 629, which won the Best Pitch Award at SXSW’s SeriesFest Pitch-A-Thon.
